Karlygash S. Absattarova, M.D., Ph.D., Senior Researcher, National Center of Maternal and Child Health, Kazakhstan, received her medical degree from the Kazakh National Medical University.  After graduation, Dr. Absattarova joined the Department of Epidemiology and Occupational Hygiene as a faculty member and later received a Ph.D. in Occupational Health and Toxicology.  Dr. Absattarova joined the National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health and currently serves as the leading specialist and senior researcher in the Department of Science and Education. Her current research interests include epidemiology, quality of care, and innovative medical education methods.

Gulmira Aldiyarova, M.D., Ph.D., received her medical degree from Akmola State Medical Academy.  After graduation Dr. Aldiyarova joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at Kazakh State Medical Academy. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as the Head Specialist in the Department of Training and Methodology at Astana Medical University in Kazakhstan. Her research interests include obstetrics, gynecology, and pathologic physiology.

Raushan Karabayeva, M.D., Ph.D., Deputy Director of the Hospital under Administration of the President of Kazakhstan, received her medical degree from Kazakh National Medical University.  After graduation, Dr. Karabayeva joined the Research Laboratory of the National Center for Work Hygiene and Occupational Disease as Head Research Associate. She later defended her dissertation and received a Ph.D. in Cardiology from the Kazakh National Research Institute of Cardiology. Her interests include infection prevention and control, epidemiology, and cardiology.

Meiram Shakenov, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the Department of Robotic Kinesiotherapy at the Republican Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Astana, Kazakhstan, received his medical degree in Pediatrics at Karaganda State Medical Institute.  He later defended his dissertation and received a Ph.D. in Neurology at Karaganda Medical Academy.  After graduation, Dr. Shakenov served as a neurologist at the Regional Skin-Venereology Hospital and the Regional Perinatal Center, both located in Karaganda. His research interests include topical questions of neurology and diseases of the peripheral nerve system.

Gulmira Yermakhanova, M.D., M.P.H., received her medical degree from the Kazakh State Medical Academy in Astana and completed her residency in general medicine at the Almaty State Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education.  Following her residency, Dr. Yermakhanova received a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Kazakhstan School of Public Health.  She joined the Ministry of Health’s Institute of Health Development as a senior researcher.  Her primary research was on issues of health care quality and patient safety. She currently is Senior Researcher at the National Center for Health Development where her responsibilities include oversight of data collection and processing for the State Program for the Development of Health.  Dr. Yermakhanova’s research interests include cost-effectiveness of insulin pump therapy in children with type 1 diabetes, quality of care, outcomes, and patient safety.

Talgat Mazhitov, M.D., Ph.D., received his medical degree at Almaty State Medical Institute in Almaty, Kazakhstan and completed his residency in internal medicine at Rostov State Medical University. He completed post-doctoral studies in internal medicine at Vitebsk State Medical University in Vitebsk, Belarus. Dr. Mazhitov then joined the faculty in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Kazakh National Medical University in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  Later, he served as the Chair and Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy at Karaganda State Medical Academy.  He then was appointed Professor and Chair in the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy at Astana Medical University in Astana, Kazakhstan. He currently serves as Professor in the Department of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology at Astana Medical University. His research interests include hospital drug management and infection prevention and control.
