Dr. Matsuyama receives NCI Grant to examine Caregiver Burden in Later Stage Cancer
July 28, 2015
Robin Matsuyama, Ph.D., has received funding from the National Cancer Institute for her study titled “Informal caregiver burden in later stage cancer: Economic and health outcomes”. Although shifting care of those with advanced stage cancers out of the healthcare setting and into their homes provides savings to the healthcare system, informal (non-paid) caregivers of patients experience a tradeoff in costs, which are often poorly described and quantified. The purpose of this study is to better understand the caregiving experience and the impact that caregiving might have on the psychological, physical, and financial health of caregovers.
